The story of.... charlie and lulu!
My name is Kim, and I live in the Sunshine Coast hinterland with my daughter Charlie and husband David. I started charlie and lulu while on maternity leave from my former life as an IT professional. Could my two worlds be any different?
I began sewing many, many years ago while in high school. My Mum also used to sew a lot of our clothes while we were growing up, and also had her own stall at the markets for a while that sold baby and children's clothes. I am grateful that my Mother could pass this skill on to me, although my sister can barely sew on a button - go figure!
My primary focus was to sew beautiful little girls clothes, particularly in the 3 month to 3 year age group - things I would like my own daughter to wear. Then with the purchase of a fancy embroidery machine I added the fantastic plushie and blankie range.
charlie and lulu now focuses purely on the personalised product side of the business. And in the coming months we are adding more goodies that can be sold with or without personalisation. I'm pretty excited about our new range!
Our current house is a 'renovator' but I did make sure it had room for a large sewing studio - even though it's a work in progress. When the sight of the renovating proves too much I take a moment to look out over the lovely view we have of the Sunshine Coast coastline.
When I'm not in my studio I am mostly just spending time with my daughter Charlie and husband David. We love to venture out to our favourite restaurants on a Friday night (now child friendly!) and taking advantage of Grandma/Charlie time so that we can catch a movie.
Oh, you're also probably wondering where 'lulu' comes into it! Lulu is my adorable niece Lucy who lives in the US. I suppose I should have named my store charlie, lulu, boo and lara to include all of my sister's children, but that might have been too much of a mouthful :)
